End Of The Land
Kiryat Yam, 2019
This video work was developed during a month-long residency with Zumu – Museum on the Move in Kiryat Yam, a coastal city characterized by its history of immigrant integration. The work is a collage of intimate conversations between the artist and senior female residents, whose voices contemplate long journeys, displacement, and the ways in which the physical and metaphorical "home" and "sea" intertwine in their lives.
The imagery was filmed in a "Jewish Agency apartment"—a state-sponsored temporary residence for new immigrants—where the artist lived during the residency. By meshing historical frameworks with personal testimonies, Katz weaves an alternative feminine narrative that challenges mainstream national myths, creating a continuous stream of localized, gendered memory.
