Tamar Katz (b. 1989) is a multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of video, performance, and sociological inquiry. Her practice examines the "existential-survivalist" condition, exploring how cultural arenas across the Israeli sphere are charged with contradictory political and material meanings. Utilizing an intermedial approach, Katz creates ruptures in various cultural landscapes, directing the gaze toward sites where social spaces become loaded with complex significance.
Katz's work has been featured prominently in major institutional venues, most notably the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, where she was commissioned for the performance series The Living Square (2021) and the exhibition Imagine a Museum or: The Remembering Body (2023). Her international profile includes solo exhibitions such as Losers’ Paradise at the Berlin Art Institute (BAI) and participation in global platforms including the Aesthetica Short Film Festival (UK), ViDEOSKiN (Canada), and Elektrohaus (Germany).
A recipient of the Ministry of Culture's Young Artist Award and the Artis Residency Grant, Katz has participated in prestigious international residencies, including the Berlin Art Institute and Andrea Zittel’s A-Z West in Joshua Tree, California. Her recent project, (After) Zoltan Kluger (2026), supported by the Shenkar Members Club and published as a monograph by Minus Books, investigates the connections between archive, memory, and wandering.
Katz holds a BFA from Shenkar College and an MFA from the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. She lives and works in Tel Aviv.
